Welding the Steel Sculpture

Our biggest challenge during this production was the creation of the 10’ by 10’ steel sculpture, hung from the grid of our space, pictured right. Without a large shop space or loading doors leading onstage, it was constructed in 6 pieces (roughly 30 hours of work), with final assembly occurring onstage over the course of 6 hours. Materials include 1 ½” square tube for the main structure and ¼” rebar for the sun and moon. Curves and circles were bent by hand using a pipe bender.
